Santa Cruz, CA - Emily Reilly was endorsed today by several local Monterey County leaders in her race for the State Assembly. Reilly is running for the Assembly in the 27th district, which includes parts of Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Santa Clara counties.
Reilly received endorsements from Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue and former Pacific Grove Mayor Jim Costello, as well as Monterey City Councilmember Libby Downey and Soledad City Councilmember Patricia Stevens. Carmel-area Democratic activists Jana Matheson and Alison Shelling have also endorsed Reilly.
"Emily has done a great job as Mayor of Santa Cruz," said Donohue. "I know that her experience as Mayor will make her an excellent representative for the people of Monterey county and the 27th AD in Sacramento."
Costello added, "With the critical financial crisis that faces California, we need someone like Emily in Sacramento who has a strong background in city government. Emily's successes in getting Santa Cruz to reduce climate change and establish green building regulations also show her commitment to environmental issues."
"I am very pleased to have been endorsed by so many local leaders in Monterey County," said Reilly. "I am looking forward to working with them in the State Assembly."
Reilly is a member of the Santa Cruz City Council and a former two-term Mayor. The Assembly seat is currently held by John Laird, who is termed out in January 2009.
