California League of Conservation Voters Endorses Emily Reilly for Assembly

Santa Cruz, CA – Emily Reilly was endorsed today by the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV). Reilly is running for State Assembly in the 27th district, which includes parts of Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Santa Clara counties.

The California League of Conservation Voters is one of the most important environmental groups in California. It has over 20,000 members and is a leading voice on issues like climate change, clean energy, pollution, and air and water quality.

“I am so proud to have received the endorsement of the California League of Conservation Voters,” said Reilly. “The voters of this district have always been on the cutting edge when it comes to protecting the environment. I look forward to bringing their progressive voice on environmental issues to Sacramento as their Assembly member.”

While Reilly was mayor of Santa Cruz, the Santa Cruz city council passed ambitious goals to decrease greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2020 and 80% by 2050. Reilly also led the effort to make Santa Cruz one of the first cities to establish a model mandatory “green building” program for all new construction. Reilly received the Ruth Vreeland Award in 2003 for her efforts on behalf of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary

Reilly is a member of the Santa Cruz City Council and a former two-term Mayor. The Assembly seat is currently held by John Laird, who is termed out in January 2009.
